Welcome to the City of Hammond, Indiana! In this website we hope you’ll find all the information you need relative to our city, whether it ranges from upcoming special news and events to access to your elected officials.

Our city website is just one of the many improvements that Hammond has seen during the last several years. Hammond has become, not only a statewide, but nation-wide leader in many areas. Through the cooperation between the Mayor’s Office and City Council, Hammond passed the only tax relief ordinance in Northwest Indiana. We are very proud to announce that our cutting-edge Legal Aid Clinic has served over 1,000 clients! We have removed hundreds of houses from federally designated floodplains, and have built a world class Youth Sports Complex. We have passed College Bound, the only one of its kind scholarship program that promotes home ownership and education. In the same vein, we have started the Hammond Homebound Home Ownership Program, offering down payment assistance to potential homeowners. Working with Purdue University Calumet, we have just opened our business incubator, the INnovator, in downtown Hammond. Hammond is also proud to be the home one of the most successful summer music festivals in the Midwest, the Festival of the Lakes (voted “Best Festival of 2007” by the Tourism Bureau!). During this festival, Hammond shares its bounty of natural beauty with people from all around the country….particularly our three lakes, Lake Michigan, Wolf Lake and George Lake. Rest assured there is something to please people any age during this fun and fantastic five day summer festival held every year in the third week of July.

Hammond is currently undergoing several huge projects on the economic development front. The Horseshoe Casino Hammond is embarking upon a $485 million project to expand its one-of-a-kind entertainment facility, and is scheduled to open in 2008. Cabela’s has opened and more is scheduled to happen on that site. Interstate Plaza is being rebuilt and revitalized, located just across the street from the Cabela’s site. The River Park apartments have been completely demolished and soon something new and exciting will be built on that valuable property. And that is not all….there is more to come. Revisit our website early and often for continual updates.

In an effort to make our website most informative to the people Hammond as well as prospective visitors to our area, it is constantly changing. We ask for your patience as we continue to update and improve the website. We invite you to browse and familiarize yourself with this exciting tool. Please feel free to offer any suggestions or request information you would like to see added. Email us at: mayor@gohammond.com.

The City of Hammond…..a city in the middle of it all! Thank you for visiting us!
