Mayor McDermott challenges city employees to beat him in FOTL 5K

CATEGORY: Festival of the Lakes Archive

As an avid runner, one of Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr.’s personal favorite events at Hammond’s annual Festival of the Lakes is the Kathleen Pucalik Memorial 5K Walk/Run. The race starts and finishes at Wolf Lake Memorial Park on Saturday, July 19, 2014. Registration begins at 7 A.M. and the race begins at 8 A.M.

As he did last year, Mayor McDermott is once again challenging city employees to come out, join the fun and try to beat him in the race. Full time employees who beat his race time will receive a day (8 hours) off with pay. Last year, 20 employees beat his time, and he is looking forward to the competition of this year’s race.

Early registration is $20; to register on the day of the race will cost $25. Awards will be presented to men & women with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes in all age divisions. An overall male and female winner in the adult and children’s races will be given. For more information about the 5K and all of the other events during the Festival, visit or call (219) 853-6378.
