Alverno Clinical Laboratory of Hammond, in collaboration with employees comprised of Friends of St. Francis Mission Committee, recently donated $772.37 in proceeds from Alverno’s recent hot dog sale to Purdue University Calumet’s From Boots to Books Program. From Boots to Books is an academic support program that assists veteran and enlisted students and family in successfully attaining their college degree from PUC. “We wanted to assist a veterans’ group, and a nephew of one of our team members suggested the From Boots to Books program,” stated Alverno Vice President of Human Resources and Friends of St. Francis Mission Committee member Bernie Henry. Jeremiah Biddle (the nephew) is an alumnus and first member of FBBP, which provides assistance, referrals, counseling and academic advising to veterans/enlisted students and their spouse and children.
