Kennedy Ave construction traffic update from the Hammond Police Department

CATEGORY: News

The city of Hammond is in the process of reconstructing Kennedy Avenue from the 7400 block to 169th Street. Although the road is open, it has been reduced to one lane in each direction. Initially, a left turn arrow was installed for both north and south traffic on Kennedy Avenue at 173rd Street, however, this traffic pattern was not effective with northbound traffic backing up into Highland at times. This morning (08/26/14), the traffic pattern was changed to only allow north and southbound traffic on Kennedy Avenue to go straight or make right turns onto 173rd Street. No left turns will be permitted from either direction of Kennedy Avenue. Motorists who normally use this route are recommended to use 169th Street for left turns. Motorists are also strongly encouraged to avoid Kennedy Avenue and use Indianapolis Boulevard State Road 152.

This is a two season project though it is expected that temporary roads may be fully open for the upcoming winter season before resuming in the spring.
