One of the most popular R & B vocal groups to emerge on the scene in the 1990s is making its way to Festival of the Lakes this summer.
The office of Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. confirmed Friday that Boyz II Men will perform July 20 at the 13th rendition of the popular fest.
The Grammy-winning trio, formerly a quartet, stars Shawn Stockman and brothers Wanya Morris and Nathan Morris. Wanya is currently showcasing his talents as a contestant on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.”
Boyz II Men’s recent headlining concerts in the last few years at The Venue at Hammond’s Horseshoe Casino as well as a 2013 concert performing a triple bill show called “The Package Tour” with New Kids on the Block and 98 Degrees in Chicago were nearly sold out shows. Fans enthusiastically packed the venues and it’s anticipated Hammond music fans will, no doubt, fill the fest’s pavilion to capacity for this show.
The group is celebrating 25 years in the music business and is currently in residency at The Terry Fator Theatre at The Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas.
Songs expected on the Boyz II Men festival playlist are “Motownphilly,” “End of the Road,” “Water Runs Dry,” “On Bended Knee,” “I’ll Make Love to You,” “A Song for Mama” and more.
Hammond’s Festival of the Lakes runs July 20-24. Among acts scheduled to perform are Eli Young Band, July 21; George Thorogood and The Destroyers, July 22; Ludacris, July 23; and Banda El Recodo De Cruz Lizarraga, July 24. Doors open at 6 p.m. and all concerts start at 7 p.m. Visit festivalofthelakes.com.
