Leon’s World’s Fastest Triathlon, which took place at Wolf Lake early last month, will have its television premiere Sunday on Comcast SportsNet.

The race, which annually brings thousands of people to Hammond, featured moving opening ceremonies that honored the military, race organizer Leon Wolek said. It included disabled veterans, a Garrison flag and a 21-gun salute.

“It’s powerful. It’s beyond powerful, with the lighting, the red, white and blue. There are no words,” he said.

The triathlon premieres at 4:30 p.m. Sunday on Comcast SportsNet. The channel numbers are 665 for DirecTV, 429 for Dish Network and 200 for Comcast high-definition and 37 for Comcast standard-definition.

“The footage is in another universe,” Wolek said. “It’s about courage, determination, not giving up. Our veterans are competing with civilians alongside them. This is beyond our wildest, wildest vision of what we originally thought this would be.”
