Hammond Police to begin tagging snowbound vehicles for towing

In order to assist the Hammond Public Works Department clear the city streets, the Hammond Police Department will begin tagging cars today that are still snowbound on public roads. Indiana state law requires that vehicles parked on public right of way be moved every 72 hours. Vehicles that have not been moved will be towed by Hammond police and the existing snow will be cleared by Hammond Public Works immediately upon removal of the vehicle.

In order to give residents an opportunity to dig their vehicles out, this operation is being done in conjunction with the weekend.

Elderly or disabled persons who may need assistance removing their vehicles from the snow may contact Hammond Public Works at 219-853-6431, the Hammond City Court’s Graffiti Removal hotline at 219-853-6410 (leave a message) or the North Township Trustee’s emergency assistance hotline at 219-306-1344 (leave a message).

Hammond Police will begin towing snowbound vehicles on Tuesday, February 10, 2015.
