Hammond Legal Aid Clinic to Offer Legal Services Relating to Immigration and Daca

Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. and the Hammond Legal Aid Clinic are pleased to announce that beginning in September the Clinic will be offering legal services relating to immigration and DACA. “Given the needs and sometimes limited resources of Hammond’s immigrant population, I felt these services were needed and would further add to the important mission of the Hammond Legal Aid Clinic,” McDermott said.

Alfredo Estrada, Partner at Burk Costanza & Carberry LLP, will be teaming with the Clinic to provide immigration legal services for qualified Hammond residents. Alfredo Estrada immigration practice involves representing immigrants and immigrant families in affirmative applications submitted to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and defensive applications for relief in immigration court. “Mayor McDermott is leading the way in improving services and engaging Hammond’s diverse community. In the absence of a workable national immigration policy, the Mayor and the City of Hammond are responding to challenges presented to Hammond residents. I am excited to work with the Mayor and the Clinic to provide these vital legal services Hammond families.”, said Alfredo Estrada.

The award-winning Hammond Legal Aid Clinic was founded in 2004 by Mayor McDermott and the City Hammond Council. It has served thousands of residents in need of legal services that they otherwise could not afford.
