Flag Retirement Ceremony

The American Legion Whiting Post 80 will be conducting a Flag Retirement Ceremony on Wednesday June 14th at 4:30pm at 125th & Calumet Avenue next to the Environmental Center.

If you have any old, heavily worn, or damaged flags that you would like to have properly honored and retired, you may drop them off at the Hammond Civic Center located at 5825 Sohl Avenue or The American Legion Whiting Post 80 located at 2003 Indianapolis Blvd., Whiting, IN.

The ceremony is open to the public and interested parties are invited to attend

Chapter one, section eight, item k, of the United States flag code states: “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferable by burning.”
