Challenger Learning Center to host Space Race 5K Run/2K Walk

The Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana will host the third annual Space Race 5K Run/2K Walk on Sunday. Beginning at 9 a.m., participants will race through Purdue University Calumet’s campus.

The race is open to all ages and the cost is $18 for adults and $12 for children 12 and younger through Saturday. Advance registration is accepted online or with the mail-in entry form.

Race-day registration is $25 for all ages and will be accepted from 8 to 8:45 a.m. The event is a Calumet Region Striders Gold Cup 5K run, and members can receive $2 off their registration by entering the coupon code “Gold.”

Attendees will be able to tour the Challenger Learning Center and enjoy space-themed activities for all ages including laser light shows and tours of the space simulator. Participants and spectators can attend the Space Race dressed in space-themed costumes.

The school or organization with the most votes from participants’ entry forms will win a Family Science Night at center, including family-friendly mini missions, planetarium shows and hands-on science activities.

The Space Race 5K Run/2K Walk will assist the Challenger Learning Center with its mission to offer science education learning opportunities for educators, school groups, businesses and the community.
