Anticipating Extreme Heat: Cooling Shelters Open in Hammond
Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott has announced that due to the extreme heat expected this week, the City of Hammond has identified several buildings as cooling centers, including: The Jean Shepherd Center, the Lost Marsh Golf Course Clubhouse and Hammond City Hall. Individuals may use these facilities during regular operating hours if necessary to cool down from temperatures that are predicted to remain high through the weekend.
“I would ask our residents to check in on their neighbors, especially senior citizens who are most vulnerable by the extreme heat,” stated Mayor McDermott. “Stay hydrated, wear light weight, light colored clothing, and limit your time outdoors.”
Hammond’s Oxbow Landing close to completion
The city’s Redevelopment Commission is close to completing the sale of the last parcel in the Oxbow Landing development, which is already home to a hotel, restaurant and brewery.
