Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Enters alphabetic and numeric data from source documents into computer following format displayed on screen. Source documents may include:
    • Offense Reports
    • Supplemental Reports
    • Arrest Sheets
    • Citations
    • Pawn Tickets
    • Fingerprint Cards
    • Gun Permits
    • Bike Registrations
    • Intoxilyzer Printouts
    • Warrants
    • Property Inventories
    • Towing Forms
    • Accidents
  • Compares data entered with source documents, or re-enters data in verification format on screen to detect errors
  • Deletes incorrectly entered data, re-enters correct data
  • Compiles, sorts, and verifies accuracy of data to be entered
  • Accepts monies from general public for copies of police reports, gun permits and issues receipts for same
  • Balances assigned cash draw on a daily basis
  • Files and retrieves information stored in Records Bureau upon request
  • Copies police reports and other printed matter
  • Answers the telephone and responds to phone requests for records checks from Police Officers and the general public
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualification Requirements:

Ability to pass Typing Test, Drug and Alcohol Screen, Background Check, Voice Stress Analysis, and Psychological Examinations.

Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or GED; one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Must satisfactorily complete an IDACS (Indiana Data and Communications System) certification course.

Hiring will be done in accordance with Hammond City Ordinance #8620 as it pertains to the residency requirement.
Position will be posted internally from May 6, 2024 thru May 10, 2024. If the position is not filled internally, it will be held open for external applications an additional ten (10) working days. The position will remain posted until filled or no more than 10 days.
