The City of Hammond is pleased to announce a proposed commercial redevelopment that would bring the city’s first Chipotle Mexican Grill and first Dutch Bros Coffee to 6525 Indianapolis Boulevard.
The project is scheduled to appear before the Hammond Board of Zoning Appeals this week as part of the development approval process.
For decades, Petros Restaurant has been a beloved fixture in the Hammond community, serving generations of residents and visitors. The City extends its sincere appreciation to the Petros family for their years of dedication and wishes them all the best as they prepare for a well deserved retirement.
“This is another exciting investment in one of Hammond’s busiest commercial corridors,” said Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. “While it is always bittersweet to see a longtime local business close, we are grateful to the Petros family for everything they have meant to our community. We also look forward to welcoming Chipotle and Dutch Bros to Hammond as we continue to attract quality development and expand dining options for our residents and visitors.”
Chipotle Mexican Grill is one of the nation’s leading fast casual restaurant brands, known for its burritos, bowls, tacos, and salads made with fresh ingredients.
Dutch Bros Coffee is one of the fastest growing drive thru coffee brands in the United States, offering handcrafted coffee, espresso beverages, teas, lemonades, and energy drinks.
The proposed redevelopment is directly across from the Hammond Sportsplex and the Hammond YMCA, an area that has experienced significant growth and continues to attract new investment. The project calls for two standalone restaurant buildings with drive thru service designed to serve the growing number of residents, visitors, and families utilizing the surrounding recreational amenities.
Pending final approvals, construction is anticipated to begin later this summer, with both restaurants expected to open in Spring 2027.
The City of Hammond remains committed to encouraging thoughtful redevelopment that strengthens the local economy, creates jobs, and enhances amenities for residents.
