Hammond and nearby areas received over six inches of rainfall in the past 24 hours, saturating the ground and increasing the risk of flooding. The Hammond Sanitary District (HSD) reports that sewers and the wastewater plant are operating at full capacity. Additional staff have been deployed to the plant and pump stations, and the Columbia Avenue CSO basin is functioning normally, discharging into the Grand Calumet River.
HSD and the City of Hammond are taking all available measures to alleviate flooding impact and help clear streets and areas of any flood damage. Hammond Public Works crews will assist residents with flood cleanup by removing items left at the curb or in the alley on Saturday, August 23, and Sunday, August 24.
If you have any questions, please contact the Public Works Department at 219-853-6431. Also, please utilize the Hammond 311 App on your smart phone to report clean up requests or issues.
Thank you for your understanding.
