Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr., the City of Hammond, and the Juneteenth Committee invite the public to attend the 6th Annual Juneteenth Celebration on Friday, June 19, 2026, in Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, located at 5925 Columbia Avenue, starting at 10:00 a.m. The event will feature food trucks, craft vendors, music by DJ Karri, and much more.

Additionally, the committee will host the 2nd Annual Bring’em Out Bike and Car Show in the parking lot of City Hall at 5925 Calumet Avenue, starting at noon.

Juneteenth is a holiday that celebrates the emancipation of those who were enslaved in the United States. It originated in Galveston, Texas, and is now celebrated annually on June 19th throughout the country, with varying levels of official recognition. The date commemorates the announcement made by Union Army General Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865, proclaiming freedom from slavery in Texas. For more information, please call 853-6358 ext. #2.
