Hammond Mayor Thomas M. McDermott Jr., along with the Department of Community Development, the Black History Coalition Committee, and the Hammond Human Relations Commission, will host the 2026 Annual Black History Month Celebration. This event will take place at the Hammond Civic Center, located at 5825 Sohl Avenue, Hammond, Indiana, on Thursday, February 5, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

This year’s celebration will honor 10 Non-Profit Organizations: Hope Angels, Inc., Prom Gene II, Inc., 4 Quarters 4 Life Community Organization, New Hope College Day Event, Candace D. Tyler Memorial Scholarship Funds, Inc., EXCEL Youth Program, Inc., Hammond Alumni Association, Ministerial Alliance of Hammond & Vicinity, Healing Broken Hearts, New Zion Temple Glory Zone Community Outreach Coalition, Inc.
