Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. and The Hammond Port Authority are excited to announce that the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) has recognized Hammond, Indiana as an award-winning participant of National Night Out, a nationwide event that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
National Night Out, held annually on the first Tuesday in August, brings together residents, law enforcement, and local organizations to strengthen relationships and build safer, more connected communities. Hammond’s 2025 night out featured a celebration at the Pavilion at Wolf Lake Memorial Park, family-friendly activities, safety demonstrations, and opportunities for residents to engage directly with local police, first responders, and other community partners.
Hammond’s participation included over 750 families from Hammond, Whiting, and other surrounding communities. This recognition from NATW highlights Hammond’s commitment to public safety, community engagement, and collaborative efforts between residents and law enforcement.
This year’s National Night Out will be held again on August 4th, 2026, at the Pavilion at Wolf Lake. If you are interested in learning more or participating as a vendor, please email Raquel Welch at welchr@hammondmarina.com.
