Hammond’s Hessville neighborhood is raising a glass to its newest destination for craft beer lovers and locals alike. Foreign Local Brewery and Taproom, a microbrew pub and neighborhood tavern, is set to open its doors at 6716–18 Kennedy Avenue in the heart of Hammond’s Hessville district.
Blending the art of small-batch brewing with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, Foreign Local Brewery and Taproom will feature a wide array of different beers, from traditional old-world styles to new experimental styles of fruit beer, brewed on-site.
Adding to its unique character, Foreign Local Brewery and Taproom is located in the former Hose Connections building, a mainstay in Hessville, originally built in 1941 as a tavern and bowling alley. By restoring and reimagining the space, owner Mike Glowacki aims to honor the building’s rich past while creating a fresh, vibrant gathering place for the community.
The new brewery will also provide an economic boost to the area by creating 10 to 15 new jobs for local residents, further strengthening Hammond’s growing small business community, especially along the newly designed Kennedy Ave corridor in downtown Hessville.
Hammond Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. praised the project as a welcome addition to the city’s growing business landscape. “Foreign Local Brewery and Taproom is exactly the type of investment we love to see in Hammond,” said Mayor McDermott. “Hessville has a rich history and a strong sense of pride. We are thrilled Foreign Local Brewery and Taproom is reinvesting into our Hammond community.”
“We wanted to create a space where great beer meets great community,” said Mike Glowacki, founder and owner of Foreign Local Brewery and Taproom. “We can’t express enough gratitude to all of our customers, to all of our employees, and to everyone that’s helped us get to where we are now.” Our goal is to celebrate that spirit while offering something unique to Hammond—a true gathering place for friends, neighbors, and beer enthusiasts.”
