The City of Hammond, through the Hammond Redevelopment Commission, has officially approved the sale and development of the long underutilized site located at 6538-42 Calumet Avenue, formerly home to the Bowl Era and Somethin’ Good restaurant.
The site will soon be transformed into a vibrant, three-tenant commercial plaza. The development will feature a Jack in the Box location with a drive-thru, along with two additional restaurant spaces. This project brings new dining options and commercial activity to the corridor.
This project marks a milestone commercial investment for Hammond’s 4th District, bringing the first major retail development the area has seen in decades.
“This is a major win for the 4th District and a fantastic development for the entire City of Hammond,” said Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. “For years, our administration has been focused on taking underutilized properties and turning them into real economic opportunities. Seeing new construction, new business, and new jobs coming to this key stretch of Calumet Avenue is proof that Hammond’s momentum isn’t slowing down.”
“Just as the City of Hammond and our residents are thrilled to see this space revitalized, the developers are equally excited to bring this project to our community,” said Juan J. Moreno, Director of Economic Development. “Partnering with businesses that recognize the value and growth potential in Hammond is exactly how we continue moving our city forward.”
