Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. and the City of Hammond invite you to join us for the groundbreaking
of the new downtown Hammond train station on Thursday, April 16 th at 1:00PM. Please join Mayor
McDermott and his staff as they celebrate this exciting new development for Hammond’s downtown.
The new train station will serve as a third Hammond stop for the new Monon Corridor Line that
connects Dyer to Chicago through Munster and Hammond. The station will be an iconic structure along
the new rail line and is designed by renowned architect, Alexander Gorlin Architects from New York,
New York in collaboration with acclaimed city planners Speck Dempsey, led by Jeff Speck, who designed
Hammond’s downtown walkable city master plan. The station will connect current and future
downtown residents to a more accessible and convenient transit option. It represents another
important step in the city’s ongoing effort to make Downtown Hammond a truly walkable city.
The event will take place near the corner of Russell Street and Oakley Avenue (east of the rail line).
There will be limited seating available. We ask that members of the community arrive a few minutes
early, so we can begin the ceremony promptly at 1:00PM. There will be on-street parking available on
both Fayette and Oakley.
For questions contact the Mayor’s Office at 219-853-6302.
