Midnight bike ride ready to roll on Saturday night August 2nd and overnight into Sunday August 3rd
Hammond, IN – Dust off your wheels and charge your flux capacitors! The City of Hammond and Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. invite you to the 14th annual WHAM! Ride (short for Whiting, Hammond, Highland, and Munster After Midnight Ride). This year’s ride returns with a “Bike to the Future” theme, inviting cyclists of all ages to light up the night on an unforgettable ride through four Northwest Indiana communities. There is a short course (11 miles) that takes riders around beautiful Wolf Lake, along George Lake, and through the Robertsdale section of Hammond and Whiting. Riders who are ready for the true WHAM! experience can ride the long course (32 miles) that takes riders on trails and streets through Hammond, Highland (with a pit stop at Wicker Park), Munster, and back up to the Wolf Lake Pavilion.
The event kicks off during the evening of Saturday, August 2nd when riders can come and hang out at the Pavilion and in the parking lots to get ready for the ride when it officially rolls out at midnight (12:00 AM) on Sunday, August 3rd from The Pav (The Pavilion at Wolf Lake Memorial Park). Although the ride is lit at certain parts throughout the ride and our public safety partners help control several intersections along the way, bike safety is still important and the responsibility of the rider. Because this is a night ride, and for the safety of all participants, helmets and bike lights are required. Please plan ahead to have these items to ensure a safe ride and to make yourself visible to other riders and vehicular traffic along the route.
Participation is completely free, and registration is now open at whamride.com.
