Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. and the City of Hammond proudly announce the official ribbon cutting for the newly expanded Hammond Sportsplex on Thursday, November 20th at 11:00 a.m. The ceremony will celebrate the continued growth and success of the facility, which originally opened in 2018 and has quickly become one of Northwest Indiana’s premier sports and recreation destinations.

The expansion adds 20,000 square feet of new space, highlighted by a brand-new soccer wing, increasing capacity for both youth and adult programs. With these improvements, the Sportsplex now features:

• 20 volleyball courts
• 10 basketball courts
• 4 relocated sand volleyball courts, now positioned at the rear of the complex
• A state-of-the-art Golf Simulator, Swingers, which opened in September and is already drawing interest from golfers of all ages

These additions will allow the Sportsplex to host an even wider range of leagues, tournaments, and community events. From large-scale regional competitions, national qualifiers and local programming, the updated facility is designed to meet the growing demand for multi-sport opportunities in the region.

The Hammond Sportsplex is home to several established athletic programs, including Velocity 219 Volleyball, Hammond FC Soccer, and the NWI Tradition Basketball Program, among others. The facility is also a hub for community activities such as yoga classes, Hammond Youth Hoops, and a variety of recreational offerings for residents of all ages.

“The Sportsplex has been an incredible asset to our community since it opened,” said Mayor McDermott. “This expansion allows us to continue supporting active, healthy lifestyles while also attracting major sporting events that bring visitors and economic growth to Hammond.”

City officials, community members, athletes, and partner organizations are invited to join the celebration and tour the new space following the ribbon cutting.
