Hammond’s 7th Annual Festival of the Lakes starts on Tuesday night, July 13, with the Odyssey luxury dinner cruise. Tickets are $100 each and are still available to the public at the Hammond Civic Center, 5825 S. Sohl Avenue, or online at www.festivalofthelakes.com.
This cruise is definitely a wonderful time, and very economical if you’ve been thinking of trying it but don’t want the hassle of driving to Chicago. The Festival’s Odyssey tickets are offered to the public at a more than 20% savings over the Navy Pier rate. That doesn’t include the $14 to $25 passengers would have to pay to park in the city! Parking is free at the Hammond Marina and the cruise is a four hour excursion-one hour longer than what is offered at Navy Pier.
The Odyssey boards at 6pm and sets sail at 7pm, rain or shine.

While the nationally-known main stage music acts are undeniably the major attraction at the Festival, it has so much more to offer. There is something for everyone at the Festival of the Lakes, and Hammond is so lucky to have the beautiful natural resources of Wolf Lake, George Lake and Lake Michigan to share with everyone. With the addition of the brand new pavilion, it will only be better!
Festival also offers area residents the opportunity to get to know some of its corporate residents, large and small. If you visit the Festival, look around. Not only at the natural beauty of the shorelines of Hammond’s three lakes, but notice the logos and banners. These are companies that have not only done business in the area for a long time, but have committed to the annual support of the Festival. Please take note of these businesses. They care about Hammond and understand the value this event has for our community. Without their support, this Festival would not be possible. Please try and patronize them by buying their products and services should you have the opportunity.
For the last 10 years, Hammond Firefighters Local 556 has held a golf outing and donates the proceeds to the Hoosier Burn Camp. This volunteer-run camp is a place where children that have suffered serious burns can come to have fun and be just like every other kid. To date, Hammond Firefighters have donated over $48,000 to this worthy cause.
On Friday, July 16 during the Festival, the Firefighters will donate all of their tip money for the evening to the camp. The lovely ladies of Tilted Kilt Eatery & Pub will be on hand in the Budweiser Beer Garden from 7-9pm to also help raise money for this worthy charity. Please join us that night for an evening with Clint Black. If you see one of the ladies, please tip generously. It is our hope that we can help the Firefighters reach their goal of $50,000 this year.
