Emergency Management Agency

Our purpose is to assist the police, fire and other departments of the city of Hammond, Indiana. We do not represent ourselves as anything other than "Volunteers" of Civil Defense. We also assist religious and private organizations in their projects for their community special events.

We serve his honor the mayor, the city council, and the citizens of Hammond.

Qualifications to become a Volunteer of Civil Defense:

Citizen of Hammond for One Year.
Twenty One Years of Age or Older
Possess a valid drivers license.
No felony convictions
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Fill out an application at 509 Douglas Street.
Clear a background check through the Hammond PD.

Once the qualifications are passed you will be notified and a interview will be arranged. Should you pass the interview, you will patrol with a field training officer for the next three months. You must put in three 4 hour rides per month. To be considered an active patrolman you must continue to put in three 4 hour rides per month. Promotions are available following one year of service as they open.
