Council Meetings are normally on the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month at 8:00 p.m.
The City Councilmen are responsible for all money coming into the city and approving all money spent by the city. Other responsibilities include passing traffic ordinances and carefully watching the operation of the city.
The city council are an elected body representing the needs of the people regarding legislation.
Every four years, Hammond constituents vote to elect City Council members for their districts and Councilmen at Large to serve on the council for the next four years.
The city council members participate in commission meetings to assure that the rights of the people are protected. The city council members also maintain a solid relationship with the state government in Indianapolis and align legislation with state guidelines. Council members also help city organizations in need of help.
