Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr., in an effort to help Hammond residents who do not own a home, has created a program that offers Hammond residents the opportunity to purchase a home through down payment assistance. The program also offers police, firefighters and educational professionals a unique opportunity to buy a home in Hammond.
The Homebound Home Ownership Program provides eligible individuals/households with forgivable loans to purchase a home in Hammond. The program is designed to further build interest in homeownership in the City.
One of the issues facing our City is the lack of owner-occupied housing. Like the College Bound program a year ago, Homebound is designed to create interest in investing and living in Hammond.
The Homebound Home Ownership program offers income eligible buyers, who have lived in the city for one year and not owned a home for one year, up to $2,500 to assist with a down payment or closing costs on an existing home and up to $5,000 on new construction.
If you are interested in more information or in applying for the program, contact the city’s Department of Planning and Development Loan Officer Jennifer Hinojosa for an appointment at 219-853-6333 or email her a hinojosaj@gohammond.com.
