The City of Hammond, for the social betterment of the community, formed the Hammond Community Corporation (HCC) in 1997. The organization is designed to grant financial assistance to Hammond not-for-profit organizations to enrich the quality of life in our community. The HCC was originally funded by money donated from the Horseshoe Casino, Hammond. These funds have been deposited as an endowment with the Legacy Foundation, allowing the HCC to use only the revenue gained on our investment. A seven-member board appointed by the Mayor of Hammond and the President of the Hammond City Council governs the HCC.
For all practical purposes, a decision was made early on to invest HCC funds and to primarily use only the interest earned on the investment each grant period. In keeping with this premise, we were only able to award based upon the interest earned in our account. The HCC was proud to award grant assistance to several city schools, churches and civic organizations despite the rough climate of our economy.
For the 2008 grant award year, HCC awarded $23,780.00 to 54 organizations that submitted grant applications to receive monies in order to assist with their mission goals. It is our goal to support those that dedicate their time and lives to helping others. For information on how your organization, school or church can apply for the coming grant year this fall, please call Hammond Community Corporation at 219-853-6371.
