The Hammond Parks & Recreation Department has several bike trails and plans to eventually connect the entire city with trails. Our current trails are well maintained and quite scenic. For a bike trail map and information on our bike hikes contact Hammond Parks at 853-6378.
Boating is permitted in Hammond at Wolf Lake and Lake Michigan Hammond Marina. Boat permits can be attained at the Hammond Civic Center and the Hammond Marina.
The Hammond Parks & Recreation Department has several programs in place to educate many youth groups on the environment in Hammond. Oxbow Park and preserved wetland sites provide a unique backdrop for the discovery of our environment. We will tailor programs to fit all students of all ages, service clubs, Boy Scout & Girl Scout programs. The Hammond Fitness Center is located at 5825 Sohl Avenue. The center is equipped with a full weight room, free weight room, aerobic facilities, racquetball courts, walking track, pool, whirlpool, sauna, senior nutrition center, lounge, and special classes each month. A membership fee is required. Contact the Hammond Civic Center (853-6378) for fee scale and hours of operation for the fitness Center.
Hammond Pop Warner/Hammond Parks & Recreation Department sponsor Flag Football during the Summer and Tackle Football in the Fall. Registration for Flag Football is held at the Civic Center in April & May, with a June and July schedule. Registration for Tackle Football is in June and begins in August.

Lost Marsh Golf Course is a championship course with a 9 hole youth course, diving range, and 18 hole course currently under construction. Youth instruction is available and subsidize funding is also available for income eligible youth. For more information contact Don Plohh at 219-932-4653.
The Hammond Environmental Education Center hosts the Master Gardner Workshop and the Hammond Garden Club. For more information on how to become a Master Gardener or to join the Garden Club call 853-2420.
The Hammond Parks & Recreation Department has five outdoor ice rinks located at Forsythe Park, Pulaski Park, Irving Park, Hessville Park, & Riverside Park. The outdoor rinks open depending on the weather. Ice Skating lessons, Ice Hockey, and hot chocolate parties are the features of this Winter event. For more information call Hammond Parks at 853-6378.
The three beaches in Hammond are Lake Front Park, Hammond Marina Beach, and Wolf Lake. They are staffed with on-duty lifeguards from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Some of the activities available at our beaches are Swimming, Volleyball, Miniature Golf, Fishing, hiking, and bird watching. For more information contact Hammond Parks at 853-6378.
The Hammond Parks & Recreation Department maintains four outdoor pools located at Martin Luther King Park, Hessville Park, Edison Park, and Pulaski Park. You must have a pool identification card or pool pass to enter the pool.

The Hammond Parks & Recreation Department and the Hammond Police Department run the Hammond Safety Village Camp starting in June through August. The Safety Village is located at the Hammond Civic Center. This camp is open to K-1st grade students. The camp teaches students about being safe on the streets, street sign education, railroad crossing safety, stranger danger, water safety, and more. The program is free and you can register at the Hammond Civic Center, 853-6378.
The Hammond Marina, located at 701 Casino Center Drive, hosts the Hammond Sail-Away Program. This is an instructive sailing program for able bodied and disabled individuals interested in the fundamentals of sailing. For registration information and fee scale.
Hammond Parks & Recreation holds Saturday Recreation at various Hammond Public Schools on Saturdays. Six elementary, one middle school and one high school are open on Saturdays from 10am – 2pm, September through April. This is an open gym type setting where children 5 – 12 can enjoy sports, arts & crafts and other forms of planned recreation. For registration information call Hammond Parks at 853-6378. Parents may register children at the site.
