American Stair Corporation, the country’s leading stair manufacturer which is currently located in Romeoville, Illinois, is relocating their state of the art production facility to Hammond, Indiana in 2015. They have purchased a formerly vacant 72,000 square foot building, with over 8 acres of land, at 3520 Calumet Ave, in North Hammond. They will invest around $3.8 million into what will soon be their new headquarters. Approximately 135 employees will relocate to this new facility, and they are projecting 45 additional new jobs opening in the next three years.

Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. is pleased to welcome such a well-established company to Hammond but also mentioned it was a team effort. “Without the support of the RDA and the IEDC, this very important economic development opportunity may have never come to fruition.” “We want to thank them for their hard work and their support of Hammond.”

“We have been working very hard negotiating with different Illinois companies over the past several years and in the end, American Stair realized the economic outlook in Indiana, and specifically in Hammond, is very bright”, said Phil Taillon, Director of Planning and Development for Hammond. “American Stair is the first of two Illinois companies that are relocating their headquarters to Hammond in 2015. The other Illinois business will make their announcement very soon.”

American Stair has been providing quality Stair Systems throughout the United States for over 59 years. With projects completed as far reaching as San Francisco, Miami, Phoenix, and Anchorage, and as close to home as Indianapolis, American Stair’s precision manufacturing and design of steel stairs and railings makes them the number one stair manufacturer in the country.

Approximately 30 employees will start working at the new American Stair facility by the end of March this year.

“There are people looking for jobs right now”, said Africa Tarver, Director of Economic Development for Hammond, “and every time we bring a new business to Hammond, we create new opportunities for Hammond residents and beyond.”
