Mayor McDermott Announces New Building Commissioner

Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. announces Robert Vale has been named Building Commissioner for the City of Hammond. As Building Commissioner, Mr. Vale will be responsible for the enforcement of the building codes on all residential and commercial properties, licensing contractors and inspection of new construction to ensure they are being built to current code.

Bob is a long time resident of Hammond, married with two daughters and has been employed with the City for the past seven years as building inspector. Before coming to the City, Mr. Vale spent twelve years as a licensed general contractor and worked in the Carpenters Union 1005.

“I have known Bob for the past seven years”, stated Mayor McDermott. “His experience as a contractor and knowledge of building codes will be a tremendous asset to us”.

Mr. Vale replaces Kurt Koch who has served as Building Commissioner for the past 10½ years. Mr. Koch will be retiring at the end of June. “Kurt has done a great job for the City and I wish him and his wife Joyce the best in the next phase of their life” stated Mayor McDermott.
