  • Job Requirements

    • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in the discipline of Park and Recreation Administration, Leisure Studies, Facility Management or related field. 1-3 years experience in the responsible, supervisory capacity via parks and recreation or other similar agency
    • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification is preferred
    • Knowledge and skills of planning, organizing and conducting a wide variety of recreation programs and the development of new programs
    • Possess the ability to work in a professional manner with coworkers, the general public, volunteers, other City staff and cooperating agencies
    • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing
    • Knowledge of department functions and organization of the agency
    • Must have computer literacy in word processing, data base, spread sheets, and desktop publishing programs
    • Knowledge of departmental; policies and procedures
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Knowledge of facilities maintenance procedures
    • Ability to coordinate activities with other staff members
    • Bartender serving license or ability to secure one within 90 days of hire
    • Knowledge of various social media platforms

  • Job Duties

    • Responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, scheduling, and evaluating all assigned Civic Center events, activities and staff
    • Promotes, plans, coordinates and schedules use of the Civic Center and it grounds in accordance with approved policies and proceduresHires, supervises, trains, schedules and evaluates all staff for the building which includes maintenance, fitness center, business office, bartenders, ticket takers, and associated staff for facility/event use
    • Prepares budget estimates based on anticipated needs of the Civic Center
    • Responsible for planning, development, implementation and coordination of Civic Center maintenance and capital improvement programs
    • Recommends written policies and procedures for Civic Center utilization
    • Coordinates security, EMTs, food concessionaires and bar services as necessary for facility use
    • Responsible for the Civic Center liquor license and related including alcohol tracking, ordering, staffing and serving as required per governmental guidelines of the State of Indiana
    • Professional appearance required
    • Keeps accurate records of all Civic Center activities
    • Promotes positive and helpful image to the public
    • Administers various social media platforms for the Civic Center facility and assists with Parks and Recreation Department sites
    • Follows all City of Hammond policies and procedures including those on personnel, purchasing, and operations
    • Assists in the preparation and coordination of recreational program advertisement
    • Seeks out activities and events for the Civic Center and coordinates contracts for Board consideration
    • Perform other duties as required as part of the Parks and Recreation Department administrative team under direction from department head including supervision, coordination or assistance at special events and programs and other tasks as assigned

  • Personal Work Relationships

    Incumbent has contact with all department personnel when delegating duties. Contact is also with the public while rendering instructional service or general information pertinent to the Civic Center.
