HFD Reminds Residents About Ice Safety

CATEGORY: Fire Department, News

The Hammond Fire Department is reminding the public to stay away from all bodies of water.

Although ice is starting to form on bodies of water around the city, it’s only a thin layer given the warmer temperatures.

Parents and guardians are asked to take a few moments to talk with children about safety.

The city also suggests keeping dogs on a leash when close to bodies of water. If a pet breaks through the ice, authorities advise against attempting a rescue since it puts the individual in serious danger.

Please call 911 to report any type of emergency.
