Feb. 2: NOVEL CONVERSATIONS
The Hammond Public Library’s Novel Conversations group meets Mon., Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss “The Yard,” by Alex Grecian. Feb. 19: AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY PROGRAM: BESSIE COLEMAN
Gigi Coleman portrays her great aunt, pioneer African American aviator, Bessie Coleman, in a free program Feb. 19 at the Hammond Public Library.

The Hammond Public Library celebrates African American History Month on Thurs., Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. All ages are invited to learn about pioneer African American aviator, Bessie Coleman, during a one-woman show performed by Bessie’s great niece, Gigi Coleman. Mondays; second Saturdays: CHESS CLUB
ACME Pawn Pushers chess club meets at the Hammond Public Library, 564 State St., on most Mondays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on the second Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. All skill levels, from beginners to Grand Masters, are welcomed. Wednesdays: MUSIC LESSONS

Does your child need to work on a science fair or history project? Friends of the Hammond Public Library offer a presentation board kit for $9.50. The kit includes a 36-by-48-inch trifold corrugated presentation board, repositionable letters, science fair title headings, clip art, and a glue stick. To purchase a presentation board kit, one may visit the Hammond Public Library, 564 State St., during library hours.
