Hammond police seek tips in hit-run that critically injured Gary man

A Gary man was critically injured Wednesday night in a hit-and-run crash in Hammond, police said.

Daniel Valdez, 54, of Gary, was taken by helicopter from the scene to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill., after the crash about 11:10 p.m. on Michigan Street west of Cline Avenue, police said.

Valdez was in serious condition Thursday night, a hospital spokesman said.

Valdez was found near the road with massive injuries that appeared to have been caused by a vehicle, police said.

Valdez’s motor scooter also was found in the area, but did not appear to have been involved in the crash, police said.

Hammond police are seeking information about the crash and Valdez’s whereabouts before the crash. Police also are seeking his family.
