Hammond Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. has announced that due to the extremely cold temperatures and wind chills expected, Hammond City Hall and non-emergency city offices will be closed Wednesday, January 30th. Garbage and Recycling will be delayed by one day this week.

Anyone experiencing cold-related issues may call 911 or go to the Hammond Police station at 504 Douglas Street. Please do not go to the police station for accident reports and such as their civilian staff will not be working.

The Jean Shepherd Center and Lost Marsh Golf Course Clubhouse will be opened 7:00am through 9:00pm as warming shelters. Hours can be extended in emergency situations due to loss of power or fire damage.

“I cannot stress this enough, please look in on your neighbors especially senior citizens during this extreme cold and bring your pets inside”, stated Mayor McDermott.
