CATEGORY: Festival of the Lakes Archive

As an avid runner, one of Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr.’s personal favorite events at Hammond’s annual Festival of the Lakes is the Kathleen Pucalik Memorial 5K Run/Walk/Splash. The race starts and finishes at the Wolf Lake Aquatic Play Center, 2100 Calumet Avenue, on Saturday, July 18, 2015. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the race begins at 8 a.m.

As he did last year, Mayor McDermott is once again challenging City employees to come out, join the fun and try to beat him in the race. Full-time employees who beat his race time by one second to 3 minutes will receive a day (8 hours) off with pay, full-time employees who beat his time by 3 minutes and one second to six minutes will receive two days (16 hours) off and full-time employees who beat his time by 6 minutes and one second or more will receive three days (24 hours) off. Last year, 11 employees beat his time and he is looking forward to the competition of this year’s race.

Early registration is $20; to register on the day of the race will cost $25. Awards will be presented to men & women with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes in all age divisions. An overall male and female winner in the adult and children’s races will be given a plaque and a trophy.
