Hammond Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. announces that the City of Hammond in conjunction with the Legacy Foundation has joined in an endeavor to finance the Bike Trail Connector Project in Hammond.

A $25,000 grant issued by the Legacy Foundation will be utilized in funding the unification of the Downtown Hammond trail and the Marquette Greenway trail. This expansion of the bike trail will afford bicycle enthusiasts the opportunity to travel from South Hammond to Chicago in a safe and uninhibited manner.

This newly joined bike trail is sure to offer new adventures for families, boost economies along the bike route and offer citizens of various communities to cycle into Hammond to experience our newly renovated parks, festivals, and our culturally diverse neighborhoods.

“As a bicyclist myself, increasing and improving our bike trails has been a pet project of mine,” stated Mayor McDermott. “It is a safe, convenient and healthy way to get from one end of the City to the other.”
