Now that the holidays are over, you’re ready to get started on that weight loss resolution. Right? Well, we’re here to help! Hammond Parks & Recreation has added a variety of new classes to get your heart pumping. There is something that appeals to everyone!

Sweetheart Healthy Lifestyle Membership Special
For the entire month of February, get yourself and your sweetheart together and join the Hammond Fitness Center at the Hammond Civic Center. For Hammond residents, an adult annual membership is only $80! For non-residents, $110. Special tanning packages are also available.
Zumba Classes
The Hammond Fitness Center has also added the fun Latin-based exercise/dance classes, Zumba, to the repertoire. Your certified instructor, Joe, leads this energized class on Wednesdays from 10-11am and on Monday & Wednesday from 5:30-6:30pm and Fridays from 6-6:45pm. This class is available to members only with the Fitness Class Pass, which costs $10 per month. Call 219.853.6378 for information on all the classes offered at the Hammond Fitness Center.
Co-Ed Line Dancing for Beginners
Want to learn the latest in line dancing? Gather your spouse, family and friends for a fun filled time in learning the latest dance steps. You will be dancing to the music of Beyonce, Luther Vandross, Janet Jackson, Jamie Fox, Eric Ben’et and more. Move and groove to the hottest beats and have some fun while shedding some of those unwanted winter pounds! Classes are every Tuesday, beginning February 2 from 6-7:30pm. The cost is $35 per month. Dancercise Classes
Dancercise classes are being held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-6:30pm and cost just $5 per session. Classes are currently in session.
Yoga
This beginner’s adult class is held on Saturday, from 9am – 10am for $12 per class. Your instructor is Christina. Classes are currently in session.

Women’s Non-Contact Boxing Conditioning
Your Instructor is Professional World Ranked Boxer Amy Yuratovac every Friday from 6-7pm and every Sunday from 2-3pm. Ages 15 and up can join for $40 per month or $6 per class. For the Kids
Saturday Winter Recreation Program
Hammond Parks & Rec invites Hammond residents with energetic children between the ages of 5 and 12 to attend the Saturday Rec Program. The Winter Rec program is held on Saturday between the hours of 10am until 2pm beginning January 16 through March 20. This free, supervised program helps to foster physical skills, fitness, health, teamwork, leadership and self esteem while creating recreational experiences for Hammond’s youth.

Martial Arts Classes
These classes focus on Karate, Jujitsu and kickboxing for ages 8 years to adult. The sessions are on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:45pm. The fee is $25 for members and $50 for non-members. Visit www.HammondAreaYMCA.org or call for more information.
Tai Chi Chih Classes
This 8 week class for ages 16 and above is on Mondays from 11:30am until 12:45pm or Saturdays from 11am until 12:15pm. The purpose of this martial arts practice is to circulate and balance the flow of energy in the body. All movements are very slow, gentle and powerful.
