Hi! My name is Donna Muta. I am the Special Events Coordinator for Hammond Parks & Recreation. I’m so excited about the chance to write this blog, and give others some insight as to what we’re trying to do for you here at HP&R. With this blog, I hope to accomplish a few things: provide you with information and promote our great city. I’ve heard a lot of comments like, “…there isn’t anything to do in Hammond”. Nothing could be further from the truth! I think it’s more about doing a better job of communicating what’s available. That’s what we’ve tried to do with the city’s website, gohammond.com, and I think we’re moving in the right direction. I also want to let you know that there are a lot of hard-working, fine people out there every day looking for new, exciting things for the public to do and an affordable price, and its part of my job to tell you about them! I’m very fortunate to work for such experienced and hard-working people. Additionally, it is an honor and a privilege to serve the public. It is a source of great joy for me to be able to help to bring fun and entertainment to the people of our area. Especially seeing kids smiling and having fun… it makes all the hard work worthwhile!
About me. I’ve lived in Hammond almost all of my life. I’ve been married for 21 years to a 15 year Hammond Police veteran (the perfect man), also from Hammond, and we have one son who is in college ($$$). I was graduated from Morton High School, Class of 1980, as was my husband; Class of 1977, (Go Govs!) and I have a wide variety of work experience. Enough about me.
Here are a few of the things I am currently working on:
- 2007 Haunted Hayride with the Hammond Parks Foundation
- 2007 Hammond Holiday Parade
- 2008 Mayor’s Night Out Program
- 2008 Hammond Outdoor Sports Show
- 2008 Festival of the Lakes (a year around event for me)
- Getting a rock and/or country concert back to the Hammond Civic Center
- Getting Roller Derby back to the Hammond Civic Center
- Promoting and marketing all of Hammond’s wonderful events
- And much, much more!
From time to time, you’ll see items posted on gohammond.com that are not held in our city. If there is an event that I think could benefit our residents, like the Lake County Energy Fair or Bike the Calumet, I’ll have it posted. Since our blog is interactive, please feel free to provide some suggestions on entertainment or events that you would like to see come to Hammond. While our calendar is just about full, we will try and consider whatever makes sense!
I’ll keep you posted as time permits. Again, it is a pleasure to serve,
